Many institutions are wondering how to manage the data they have. In order to understand the ethical challenges facing today's organizations, it is important to understand the essence of the big data phenomenon. The definition of the phenomenon called big data is mainly based on the amount of data that cannot be analyzed in the previously known way, through tools for business analysis of structured data. In this sense, the volume of data processed is only one of the risk factors and ethical issues that are associated with other big data features. This information is not only characterized by size, but also by diversity, dynamics and reliability [Vasset, 2012, pp. 1-5; Dumbill, E., 2012]. The purpose of this article is to present the ethical issues of data management and big data analysis that today's organizations are facing.




The fourth big data feature distinguished by experts, which is data reliability, should also be considered. The information available to organizations is very sensitive and enables the identification of a given person. They apply to hobbies, work, as well as health and all other aspects of life [Vasset, 2012, pp. 1-5].

The size, diversity, dynamics and reliability of data that companies have is growing significantly. We live in a time when the data generated is measured in exabytes and terabytes. Forecasts predict that by 2025 the Internet will exceed the capacity of all human brains in the world. In addition, the diversity of data and their sources is expanding as soon as new technologies create them. The life of modern man is closely linked to the continuous production of data [Davis, Petterson, 2012, pp. 1-11]. Performance indicators from car monitors, tests carried out using medical devices, computers, telephones, and thus the growing number of all smart devices, cause their continuous increase. About 90% of the world data stored at the end of 2012 was created in 2011-2012 [Conway, 2011].

The big data revolution has caused great changes in the ability to process complex events in real time, capture Internet traffic, develop products, and analyze large volumes of data. Over the past few years, organizations have increasingly started using big data technologies. The first effects of these actions are already noticeable and one should consider the ethics of using these solutions. The potential consequences and harmfulness can quickly outweigh the benefits of big data solutions. Therefore, although innovators are excited about the potential opportunities they can achieve by designing and developing a wide range of products and services based on big data technologies, the size, diversity, dynamics and reliability of available information raises further ethical questions.

These aspects relate to the acquisition of data and the use of a large amount of information about human characteristics, behaviors, preferences, relationships with other people and location. Fundamentally, these considerations are ethical issues. They relate to values and the way the product will be introduced. Products and services are profitable by analyzing large collections. This is often very sensitive data. Organizations should develop a framework to help them balance their ethical behavior with the benefits of big data analysis [Davis, Petterson, 2012, pp. 1-11].
