PECULIARITIES OF VERBALIZATION OF EMOTION CONCEPTS LOVE – HATE IN ENGLISH TEXTS

Emotions are an integral part of human life. They influence our perception of the world, behavior and interaction with other people. Emotions are also crucial elements in speech. They can be transferred directly through emotional vocabulary and expressions, as well as indirectly through the context, style and structure of the text.

The concepts of Love and Hate are among the most urgent emotional concepts. They are associated with such fundamental human feelings as love, hatred, passion, disgust. These concepts are widely represented in English texts, both fiction and non-fiction. Emotional concepts are concepts that are related to emotions. They are often used to express feelings and to elicit emotional responses from the opponent. Emotive concepts can be realized for a variety of purposes, including everyday conversation, literature, advertising, etc.

An emotional concept is a concept that has an emotional color which can be positive, negative or neutral [1, p.10]. Verbalization of emotional concepts in speech and texts can be done in different ways. One of the most common ways is to use emotional vocabulary. Such lexemes includes words that have a distinct emotional color. For example, the words "joy", "sadness", "anger", "fear", "love", etc. In addition, emotional concepts can be verbalized with the help of lexical means that do not have a distinct emotional color, though can acquire an emotional tone in a certain context. For example, the word "beautiful" can express joy if it is used to describe something that a person likes [2, p. 535].

Semantically, the concept of Love can be defined as a strong feeling of affection, tenderness and care for another person. This feeling is often accompanied by, but not limited to, physical desire. Love can be romantic, platonic, familial or spiritual.

The meaning of the concept "love", which is ethno- and language-specific, has changed over the centuries, thus reflecting profound changes in the conceptualization of human relationships [3, p. 200]. One of the most vivid psychological factors that generate aggression is the emotion of hatred. In the modern cognitive-discursive paradigm of linguistics, hatred is defined from the standpoint of the plurality of worlds theory [4, p. 15]. In the English language, the concept of "hate" is represented by the lexemes "hate" and "hatred". According to I. Kovalevich and O. Senkov, the emotional vocabulary associated with the concept of Love is very diverse. It includes: Words that directly express love: love, friendship, romance, passion.An example from the novel Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austine: "I shall think you a simpleton, for there is but one man in the world I love, and he is an angel." [ 5, p. 202]

Here are some examples of the use of emotional vocabulary and expressions related to the concept of "Hate" – "I hate you!"; "I have a deep hatred for war"; "I dislike your attitude." 

 An example from the novel “Jane Eyre” by Charlotte Brontë: "I am not your dear; I cannot lie down: send me to school soon, Mrs. Reed, for I hate to live here" [6, p.27].

The concepts of Love and Hate are among the most important and widespread in English literature. They can be used to express a wide range of emotions, from the deepest love to the strongest hatred. The emotional vocabulary and expressions associated with the concept of Love are very diverse. They can express different feelings such as joy, happiness, sadness, jealousy, anger and pain. The emotional vocabulary and expressions associated with the concept of Hate are also very varied. They can express feelings such as anger, disgust, contempt, and desire for harm.

The structural and stylistic features of the verbalization of the Love and Hate concepts may also vary depending on the genre and purpose of the text. For example, in fiction, the concepts of Love and Hate can be verbalized using more expressive language devices, such as metaphors, epithets, similes, etc. In scientific texts, on the contrary, the concepts of Love and Hate can be verbalized by more neutral linguistic means, such as simple nouns, adjectives and verbs. Therefore, the verbalization of the concepts of Love and Hate can be carried out with the help of various linguistic means, such as vocabulary, syntax and stylistic techniques. The use of these tools may vary depending on the genre and purpose of the text.
